Goodyear Police Department accepting applications for Teen Police Academy

The Goodyear Police Department will accept applications for its 2020 Teen Police Academy through 5 p.m. Friday, July 10.
The weeklong academy scheduled July 20-24 is open to high school students ages
14 to 18 and will provide them an inside look at law enforcement through training provided by various members of the Goodyear Police Department
Some of the topics to be covered include:
Working mock crime scenes;
Firearms safety and training;
Criminal street gangs;
SWAT/SAU;
K9; and
Drug awareness
Class size is limited to 25 students, who will meet 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Applicants are subject to a background check and will be interviewed before final selection is made. Applications must include a 250-word essay detailing why the student wants to attend the academy and what they have done to prepare. They also must include the applicant’s medical insurance card.
Cost per student is $50, which includes a Teen Police Academy polo shirt, some lunches, a scheduled fun day and the graduation ceremony. Each student must provide their own transportation.
Applicants are asked to print the application, fill it out and return it to the Goodyear Police Department Operations Building at 11 N. 145th Ave. Goodyear, ATTN: Sgt. Webster. Lobby hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays.
