Goodyear council members sworn in Jan. 3

Posted

The city of Goodyear will start 2023 with a ceremony to induct the newly elected Goodyear City Council members.

The ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at the Goodyear City Council Chambers, 1900 N. Civic Square.

Voters elected a mayor and three council members in the August 2022 election.

Mayor Joe Pizzillo was appointed to serve as Goodyear’s Mayor in December 2021 to complete the term of the late Mayor Georgia Lord. He’s been on the Goodyear City Council since 2009 and was elected to serve as mayor in 2022.

Vice Mayor Brannon Hampton will begin his second council term in 2023. He was elected to his first four-year term in 2017 and reelected in 2022.

Councilmember Wally Campbell will begin her third and final term in the new year. She was appointed in 2011 to complete the remaining term of then-Vice Mayor Georgia Lord when she vacated the seat to become mayor. Campbell was then elected in 2013, 2017 and 2022.

Councilmember-elect Vicki Gillis will also be sworn in becoming the newest member of council.

Following the ceremony, the council will appoint the next Vice Mayor. The Mayor and Council are elected to serve four-year terms. The mayor has a two-term limit, and the Council has a three-term limit.
