Saddle Mountain Brewing Company is hosting Rachel Svetz in a live acoustic set on Jan. 30.
SMBC collaborates with local businesses and nonprofits to contribute to the regional beer scene and community feel inside its taproom and in larger events that kick off in the cooler weather. The brewery hosts live music every Wednesday and Thursday and special events nearly every weekend between September and May.
Svetz is a 23-year-old artist with a folk and indie-pop sound who moved to Goodyear when she was 7 years old. She plays original work and covers with SMBC monthly.
“I play music for everyone. I cover songs that are widespread throughout most, if not all, generations to appease to everyone’s enjoyment,” Svetz said.
Well-known artists like Taylor Swift, Stevie Nicks, Lizzy McAlpine, and Bruce Springsteen have guided Svetz’s musical journey. Svetz says she aims to emulate their mastery of lyricism to tell stories that matter to her and her community.
“Music is something that has always been close to me, something that has saved my life and inspired me to keep going. Even throughout the most tumultuous and treacherous times in my life, I always turned to music to ground myself,” said Svetz. “Solace and tranquility are just the beginning descriptors of what music brings to my life.”
Through her music, Svetz's goal is to make her audience feel safe, seen, and able reach their fullest potential. Outside of performing, those sentiments remain true as Svetz seeks a career in school counseling.
“In my life, I want music to always be a safe space for myself and for others ,” said Svetz “I have realized that I like to keep music as something I choose to do rather than something I am told to do. It allows me to do what I love without any pressure… I hope to keep it close to my heart where I can still choose how I want to navigate with it in my life.”
Svetz will be performing on the patio at SMBC, 15651 W. Roosevelt St. in Goodyear from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
