Edward R. Mercer, Sr.

Posted

Edward went to be with the Lord on September 8, 2020 at his home in Sun City West. Ed passed in the arms of the love of his life, his wife Twylia, of 61 Blessed years. Ed was born in Cresap, West Virginia on September 16, 1935 to his parents, Russell and Mary Mercer.
Ed served in the Naval Reserves and the US Army. He was in the restaurant business for over 25 years beginning with Sambo’s, then as a Supervisor for a restaurant chain, and last but not least, Mercer’s Restaurant in Peoria.
Ed and Twylia were blessed with being able to travel and Ed’s favorite trip was the Holy Land, where his dream came true to ride a camel.
Ed was a faithful member of the Surprise Church of Christ and served the Lord for 60 years, always being active in God’s work until Alzheimer’s ravaged his body. With the struggle of Alzheimer’s, Ed was a great example as a Christian as to how he handled the declines, giving thanks to God for each day and having such a positive attitude.
Ed is survived by his wife, Twylia; two sons, Ed Jr. (Helen) and Dean (Patricia); seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother James.
Services will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at Sunland Mortuary in Sun City. Visitation at 10:00 A.M. with the service to begin at 11:00 A.M.
