Litchfield Park finalizes design on Camelback Park parking lot project.
Posted
A new parking lot planned along Villa Nueva Drive at Camelback Park is nearing its final design, according to the city’s April newsletter.
The project will add 24 parking spaces, including two handicap-accessible spots, five golf cart or motorcycle spaces, and two loading zones. Plans also call for new benches, sidewalks along the park frontage, and two traffic speed cushions on Villa Nueva Drive.
“With the increasing use of this park by residents and non-residents, as well as the increases in traffic and speeds along Villa Nueva Drive, there is a major need for these improvements,” Keith Drunasky, city engineer for Litchfield Park stayed in the newsletter.
The angled parking will be accessible from the northbound direction of Villa Nueva Drive. The speed cushions, which will be located near the northwest and southern ends of the park, are intended to reduce vehicle speeds and improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians.
A new concrete sidewalk along the park’s frontage will improve connectivity between the parking area and park amenities.
Additional improvements are planned as part of an upcoming capital improvement project, including shade structures, walking and exercise facilities, and other equipment. A separate project will install solid and view fencing along Camelback Road and Dysart Avenue to enhance safety and the overall park experience.
Final designs for the parking lot are expected by the end of April, with construction anticipated to begin later this spring and continue into early summer.
