Calbone claims Week 6 football player of the week vote

Posted

Willow Canyon junior running back Vince Calbone received heavy carries in only one game this season, and he made it count.

In the Week 6 West Valley Preps football player of the week poll, a total of 2,280 votes were cast.

Calbone won with a total of 974 votes.

That was enough to hold off Liberty sophomore running back Zaccheus Cooper  (784 votes) and Estrella Foothills senior wide receiver Daylen Batchan (285 votes)

Calbone shined in a 52-12 rout of Casa Grande Vista Grande on Nov. 6 with 14 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown.

Cooper was a dual threat, with 15 carries for 68 yards and two touchdowns, and seven catches, 132 yards and a touchdown in the Lions 36-25 come from behind win at Phoenix Pinnacle.

Batchan continued the Wolves' three-game winning streak and playoff push with 11 catches for 190 yards and four touchdowns in a 48-28 Estrella Foothills home win against Lake Havasu.

For the fifth straight year, player of the week honorees, including Calbone will win more than bragging rights.

Celebrity Tux and Tails, returns as the sponsor of the player of the Week poll. The store, at 9240 W. Northern Ave., Suite 103-A in Peoria, will provide each winner a free rental redeemable any time this school year.

The polls have been delayed, but we'll have two up this week. The Week 7 player vote is up here. Look for the Week 8  vote soon.
