Avondale calls for artists to submit art proposals for entertainment district, The BLVD.

The City of Avondale is seeking artists to design and produce sculptures for The BLVD, the city’s entertainment district. The project will include three pedestal-mounted sculptures that reflect aspects of Avondale’s history, culture, and environment.
Proposals are due by Wednesday, April 16. The project is open to professional sculptors and design architects, and the selected artworks must be completed and installed by September.
This initiative is part of Avondale’s Public Art Master Plan, which promotes public art as a way to enhance the city’s identity.
Public art in Avondale is guided by priorities that include representing community and cultural influences, preserving and sharing local history, recognizing the city’s agricultural background. The city’s Public Art Ordinance requires that large-scale commercial and municipal developments incorporate publicly visible art to contribute to the area's visual and cultural landscape.
The sculptures will be placed in high-traffic areas of The BLVD, including near the American Sports Complex. Each piece must:
Fit within a 5’ x 5’ asphalt pedestal.
Be weather-resistant and durable.
Comply with ADA accessibility standards.
Relate to Avondale’s history, culture, or environment, with suggested themes including racing, agriculture, desert landscapes, or waterways.
Artists may submit multiple concepts, and proposals that create a cohesive visual theme will receive additional consideration.
Interested artists must provide a cover letter outlining their artistic approach and experience, a resume and images of past work, a concept drawing or photographs of the proposed work, an artist statement describing the connection to Avondale’s themes and an installation requirements and material details.
Finalists may be invited to present their concepts to the Avondale Municipal Art Committee.
