Aviation-themed playground opens in Litchfield Square

Posted

A new aviation-themed playground in Litchfield Square opened on Monday, Feb. 24. The playground features replica airplanes and a rope and climbing system. A shade structure has also been added to keep children cool while they play.

The playground is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to build up Litchfield Square, a mixed-use development that will include restaurants, retail spaces, offices, and public amenities. The city’s portion of the project, including utilities, roads, and landscaping, is nearing completion, with additional roads and amenities expected to open weekly.

Litchfield Square is being developed in phases. Construction is set to begin this spring on Lots 3 and 4, which will feature a two-story, 40,000-square-foot mixed-use building with restaurants, retail spaces, and offices. Proposals for additional developments on Lots 1 and 2, as well as plans for a three-story building on Lots 13 and 14, are still under review.

The city sold Lot 3 to LP Heritage Partners LLC in 2022, which plans to develop Heritage Place at Litchfield Square. The project will consist of about 40,000 square feet of retail, office, and restaurant space. Construction plans are currently being finalized.

As the city continues to open new roads, utilities, and public spaces, the development of Litchfield Square remains on track to create a walkable, community-oriented area in the center of Litchfield Park.
