Woman arrested in fatal pedestrian collision in Glendale

A pedestrian is dead, and a woman was arrested following a fatal pedestrian collision in Glendale.
The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Sunday near 75th and Glendale avenues.
According to records, Ashley Marie Cliff, 29, was driving her vehicle eastbound on Glendale Avenue when she passed two police vehicles — one marked, the other unmarked.
Police said Ms. Cliff’s vehicle was traveling around 65-75 mph in a 40 mph zone when she passed the officers. Police said Ms. Cliff swerved her vehicle and lost control, striking a female pedestrian who was walking to work. Records state Ms. Cliff’s vehicle also struck a fire hydrant and a parked vehicle, broke a tree in half and ran into the front door and window of an occupied apartment.
Police said the pedestrian was found behind Ms. Cliff’s vehicle without a pulse. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Police said Ms. Cliff had her 6- and 5-year-old children in the vehicle. She and the children were taken to the hospital for treatment. The Department of Child Safety responded to take possession of the children.
Ms. Cliff was found to have a blood alcohol content of 0.318, more than almost four times the legal limit in Arizona.
Records state Ms. Cliff’s driving privileges are suspended for a DUI conviction in 2019.
Ms. Cliff was jailed in lieu of $100,000 bond on charges of manslaughter, aggravated DUI and endangering the health of a minor.
