Michael Denson to help offer ‘innovative and diverse opportunities’

Glendale resident Michael Denson is the new Arts HQ Gallery Director at West Valley Arts Council, 16126 N. Civic Center Plaza, Surprise.

Mr. Denson’s experience as an artist, leader, teacher, and visionary in non-profit organizations and community arts within the Valley will strengthen the connections and collaborations within the West Valley communities. Although a photographer by trade, his passion lies in mixed media and large installation art.

“Whether a small and intimate painting or a large experiential piece, art has a way of pulling you into something deeper, something beautiful and transformative. This is the energy that I hope to bring to the West Valley,” Mr. Denson stated in a news release. “I’m excited to help offer innovative and diverse opportunities for artists, collaborators, art supporters, and community members, creating a holistic and thriving arts culture within the West Valley.”

His commitment to fostering positive conversation and engagement in the community through creativity and artistic expression gives him the ability to fulfill this role and inspire innovation, empathy and inclusivity, board chair Kathy Knecht stated.

“We are excited about Michael’s level of experience and expertise,” Ms. Knecht stated. “Like everyone else, we’re navigating our new normal. And as we bring new blood and fresh eyes to the West Valley Arts Council, we are better able to bring unique and fulfilling experiences to our entire West Valley community.”

Mr. Denson earned his Master of Arts in Innovation and Leadership from Kilns College and his Bachelor of Arts in Photography from The College of Santa Fe. He has more than 10 years of combined experience in gallery operations and as leader and implementer of innovative programs.

He honed his  skills and knowledge through his work for The Rag Collection and Food for the Hungry; Valley non-profit organizations serving the youth, and the marginalized and disadvantaged.

Originally from Detroit, Mr. Denson’s gallery of artwork can be viewed by visiting densoncreative.art.
