Vice mayor says out-of-state opponents misleading Glendale voters on Props 401, 402

Posted

I’m pushing back against the continued false rhetoric of Worker Power — the political arm of California-based labor union Unite Here — in the run-up to the Propositions 401 and 402 special election culminating May 20.

We work with developers and neighborhood stakeholders to ensure projects are in the best interest of Glendale citizens. That’s what we did with the VAI Resort project near Loop 101 and Cardinals Way. Unfortunately, the list of false claims about this project is a mile long. Don’t believe the opponent’s rhetoric.

Here’s the truth: The opponents of this project are a California labor union. We’re talking about a 10-acre plot of land, not a city park. There’s no special tax incentive attached to this project. Every aspect of the project has been vetted in a public forum.

The zoning agreement was approved unanimously by the City Council. The project will create thousands of new jobs and billions in new tax revenues that will have a positive economic benefit by funding essential city services like public safety and streets.

I’m urging all Glendale voters to show their support and vote YES for Glendale and reject the false claims of this out-of-state group.

The deadline to turn in ballots is May 20. Voters who still have ballots can drop them off at official drop boxes:

• Foothills Library, 19055 N. 57th Ave., Glendale 85308
• Glendale City Clerk, 5752 W. Glenn Drive, Glendale 85301

Why Props 401 and 402 must pass

Passage of the two propositions is critical for the completion of the VAI Resort, which will be the state’s largest resort and will generate more than 2,000 jobs and $2.2 billion in tax revenues without raising taxes.

A yes vote on Prop 401 upholds a unanimous Glendale City Council approval of a general plan amendment. A yes vote on Prop 402 confirms the council’s unanimous zoning approval.

The election is by mail-in ballot only and will culminate on May 20. Voters can learn more by visiting yesforglendale.com.
