A Valley man has been indicted on four sex-related charges against teens and other potential crimes in cases dating back nearly 25 years through the use of DNA testing.
Dat Vu, 45, was charged with two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual conduct with a minor, one count of kidnapping, one count of attempt to commit sexual conduct with a minor, and one count of sexual abuse, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
Several of the charges come with an additional note of a dangerous crime against children.
The crimes Vu is alleged in occured in Phoenix and Glendale between 2000 and 2005. They involved teens age 13 to 17 years old, and in two cases he is accused of threatening the victims with a gun, according to the county attorney's office.
Vu had previous convictions, including one for attempted sexual assualt, so investigators were able to match his DNA against evidence from the four cases, officials with the county attorney's office said.
Vu was identified, in part, through DNA testing on sexual assault kits that was tested with finding from the county attorney's office Sexual Assault Kit Initiative aimed at clearing backlogs of sexual assault kits.
