Voters look to be saying “yes” to allowing Glendale Union High School District to maintain its operating budget through a budget override.
As of the most recent results posted by the Maricopa County Elections Department as of 2 a.m. Wednesday morning, 61% of voters (or 29,764 votes) voted Tuesday to continue the 10% M&O Override to maintain current override funding.
There are currently 19,331 votes, or 39%, saying “no” to the override.
The override would prevent GUHSD from cutting more than $11 million from its operating budget.
The district has had its override in place since the 1990s, which provides additional funding for the daily operation of the school district.
With approximately 85% of the M&O budget used for staff salaries and related benefit costs for the district’s 2,000 employees, community support is necessary to maintain programs or services beyond the basic state standard.
Glendale Union High School District is the second largest high school district in Arizona, and serves more than 17,000 students over nine high schools, two specialty schools, and one online learning academy in Glendale and Phoenix.
