Unofficial early results: Incumbents ahead in Glendale mayor, Council races

With only about a quarter of the vote counted, early unofficial election results from Tuesday night show the incumbents leading in the Glendale mayoral race and in the only contested City Council race.

The results, from the Maricopa County Recorder's Office, show incumbent Mayor Jerry P. Weiers with a 52.9% to 46.8% lead over challenger Michelle Robertson with 27.7% of the vote counted. Mr. Weiers had 17,280 votes Tuesday night to Ms. Robertson's 15,285 in the city-wide election.

In the Yucca District, the only contested City Council race of three on the ballot this year, the early results show incumbent Councilwoman Joyce Clark has a larger lead, 58% to 41.3% over challenger Bryce Alexander with 23% of the vote counted. Ms. Clark had 2,419 votes Tuesday night versus 1,721 for Mr. Alexander.

In the two uncontested Council races, incumbent Vice Mayor Ray Malnar has 98.8% of the vote with 31% of ballots counted in the Sahuaro District. In the Cactus District, incumbent Councilman Ian Hugh has 98.8% of the vote with 25% of ballots counted.
