Traffic safety campaign underway in Glendale

Posted

The Glendale Police Department is partnering with state, county and local organizations to bring roadway safety and awareness to the West Valley.

The message that will be echoed is “Be Alert, Crashes Hurt”. This traffic safety campaign will began Monday and continues through Saturday, during which participants will remain highly visible to the community in order to encourage good behavior.

Officers and partnering members will be performing numerous enforcement and educational events throughout the week stressing the importance of being alert and safe.

This education will be provided to drivers and pedestrians as both need to refrain from distractions while traversing the roadways, a release states. Among the events and enforcement that will be taking place are traffic education presentations at selected schools, a child restraint education event in partnership with Safe Kids Worldwide, door hangar safety walks, DUI enforcement and attendance at the Arizona State Fair Safety Day.

Among those involved are the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Arizona Department of Transportation, Glendale Elementary School District, Safe Kids Worldwide, First Southern Baptist Church, Arrowhead Towne Center, M&J Trophies and multiple West Valley law enforcement agencies and community volunteers.

The week will include multiple enforcement and educational events to include social media posts and videos focused on roadway safety:

Monday and Tuesday: Safety walk to hand out fliers and door hangers for vehicles and pedestrian safety. Briefing at 3:30 p.m. at the Glendale Civic Center;

Wednesday and Thursday: Daytime enforcement and commercial vehicle safety inspection. 7 a.m. briefing at First Southern Baptist Church, 10250 N. 59th Ave.;

Friday: DUI enforcement task force, 7 p.m. briefing at the Glendale Regional Public Safety Training Center; and

Saturday: Know your limit education and awareness out at Westgate and a free Child Seat Install event from 9-11 a.m. within the Sears parking lot at Arrowhead Towne Center.
