A teenager was found dead Monday on the campus of a Glendale high school.
Just before 7 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, a sanitation worker at Independence High School, 6602 N. 75th Ave., in the Glendale Union High School District, was near the dumpsters located adjacent to the campus football field. Glendale police say he saw something laying near the dumpsters in that area. Initially, the worker wasn’t sure if it was a prank or a Halloween decoration. When he moved closer he realized it was a body. The worker then called 9-1-1.
When officers arrived they determined it was a 17-year-old male. Further investigation showed the male was reported as a missing juvenile on Sunday night.
His family said he left the home and had not returned. Investigators believe the juvenile was on top of the press box and fell to the ground. It is unknown whether the fall was accidental or on purpose. There is no indication of foul play, according to police.
The 17-year-old is not a student at Independence High School. No students or faculty ever came in contact with the body. School resumed as usual with information sent out to the parents from the school district about the situation.
