Teacher Appreciation Week at Great Hearts brings out superheroes

Posted

Great Hearts Archway Glendale Academy kicked off National Teacher Appreciation Week with a bang.

This year, the national week-long event fell May 3-7.

More than 25 parent volunteers from Archway Glendale spent several hours decorating the hallways and classroom doors to show their thanks to teachers, April 30.

This year’s theme was superheroes.

“The teachers have gone above and beyond this year,” said Parent Teacher Service member Bri Holloway. “We felt the theme was fitting and our teachers have been outstanding, always putting their best foot forward and keeping the students first.”

Parents adorned the doors, classrooms and hallways with custom images of superheroes complete with paper cutouts of the teachers and their students.

In addition to the décor, the PSO and Great Hearts sponsored additional gifts of gratitude to teachers all week long with treats from food truck meals, snacks and even bonuses that students, dressed in superhero costumes, passed out to teachers.

“If you ask Great Hearts parents, staff, board members and, most important, students, the number one thing that sets Great Hearts schools apart, they would all say it is the teachers,” Archway Glendale Headmaster Jack Kersting. “Our teachers take an intense interest in each student’s gifts and challenges and teach them how to harness their virtues into growth that improves their communities.”

Archway Classical Academy Glendale is a member of the Great Hearts Academies network of schools in metro Phoenix. The public charter school has more than 530 students in grades K through 5th. It is located at 23276 N. 83rd Ave. in Peoria.

Great Hearts is a nonprofit network of tuition-free public charter schools dedicated to improving education nationwide through classical preparatory K-12 academies. More information can be found at greatheartsamerica.org.
