Suspect dead in Glendale officer-involved shooting
Posted
One suspect is dead after an early morning officer-involved shooting in Glendale.
GPD Public Information Officer Tiffany Ngalula reported just after 4:30 a.m. Dec. 22, one officer was dispatched to a residential burglary alarm activation near 7500 N. 59th Lane.
The officer arrived on scene and located an adult Hispanic male in the back yard. Police allege the suspect attempted to flee on foot, and the officer confronted the suspect in the street.
The suspect had a solid metal bar, about 2-3 feet in length, in his hand and came toward the officer, police say. The officer fired his weapon striking the adult male. Additional officers arrived on scene and attempted lifesaving efforts with their police trauma kits.
Glendale Fire pronounced the suspect deceased on scene.
The officer did not sustain any injuries.
The officer, whose name has not been released, has been placed on administrative leave per standard practice. He has been with the department for more than two years.
