The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services will have a heat relief station available in Glendale during an Excessive Heat Warning issued by the National Weather Service this weekend.
The Salvation Army has provided heat relief to 80,000 people statewide this year and given out 185,000 bottles of water.
Residents in need can go to the following Salvation Army heat relief station for indoor cooling and hydration from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends when the National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning – as is the case Saturday and Sunday:
Glendale – Glendale Corps Community Center, 6010 W. Northern Ave.
Additionally, a mobile hydration unit will be dispatched 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sept. 9 and 10 to portions of the Valley identified as areas with high homeless populations.
The Salvation Army EDS is part of the Maricopa Association of Governments’ Heat Relief Regional Network, the goal of which is to provide resources to prevent heat-related illnesses and deaths among vulnerable populations.
Extreme heat can affect people without adequate air conditioning, or someone on a fixed income who might not run their A/C because they need to buy food or medicine.
