Officers shoot, kill man who pointed gun at them outside Glendale home: Phoenix PD

A 26-year-old man is dead following a Phoenix police officer-involved shooting in Glendale, authorities said.

Three officers fired after the man left a home near 8700 West Glendale Avenue, took out a handgun and pointed it at police, according to a release.

The incident began when Phoenix police responded to an aggravated assault call near 8500 West Indian School Road.

Officers said they learned that the victim, a ride share employee, was robbed of his car at gunpoint. The car had GPS tracking capabilities and was found at the Glendale location.

Officers found the house where the suspect was seen entering, and during negotiations a woman came out and confirmed the man was inside, the release stated.

“Negotiations continued until the man came out and walked to the driveway,” police said in the release. “As officers were giving commands, he took out a handgun and pointed it at a number of officers. It was at this time that three Phoenix officers fired their duty weapons at the suspect.”

Officers noticed a strong odor of gas coming from the house, according to officials, and they put on gas masks and cleared the home, making the scene safe for medical personal to respond.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Glendale Police Department responded and took over the investigation, while Phoenix police conduct a separate administrative investigation.
