MLK Day of Service coming to Glendale

Posted

UPDATE, Jan. 9: The city reports that due to a huge turnout of registered participants, the event is no longer accepting volunteers. Also because of the big turnout, the city will be expanding its event reach with volunteers gleaning fruit both at Sahuaro Ranch Park and at Manistee Ranch.

The city of Glendale is calling on residents to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at this year’s MLK Day of Service.

The event goes from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 14 at Sahuaro Ranch Park, 9802 N. 59th Ave.

Throughout his life, Dr. King advocated for peace, unity and service.

MLK Day of Service is an annual tribute to his life, and a way to donate vitamin-rich citrus to families in need. In partnership with HandsOn Greater Phoenix and St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance, more than 200 volunteers will help glean fruit from Sahuaro Ranch Park.

Removing the fruit also helps beautify a Glendale landmark.
