Meet Your Neighbor: Jamie Longoria

Posted

Name: Jamie Longoria

Business Name: Royalty Hair + Makeup Designs, 19420 N. 59th Ave.

Town/Neighborhood: Glendale

Hours of operation: 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

Personal background highlights: My family moved from California to Arizona when I was a toddler. My mother and father owned their own flooring company; I was able to observe how they functioned their small, thriving business. After the many, many curveballs that life threw at us, I learned very quickly to dust yourself off and get back up.

Professional background highlights: Graduating from Toni & Guy Academy in March 2010 was the beginning of this wonderful journey. After working for a few different salons, learning many different techniques and meeting my priceless clients, I decided it was time to start my own salon. I have not regretted it for one moment. Being able to adapt to my clients’ needs without having to check with “my manager.” My clients and I discuss different looks, trends, their face shape and preferences to create a game plan and execute the plan perfectly.

What I do: Help people feel comfortable in their skin.

What I like most about doing business here: Meeting new people. I have been around some caring, open minded, thoughtful people in this industry. Enjoying life to the best of our ability is something important in all areas of life.

Changes I would like to see in my area: People working together even more. Less segregation, more teamwork.

What am I promoting: Confidence. OK a literal sense: Always have a referral program ($5-$15 to new and original clients). Occasionally, will promote a 20 percent off your service tab for new clients. Recurring clients receive birthday gifts, and/or Christmas gifts. I take care of all my clients.

What I’m excited about and why: Products to make my clients’ life easier. It’s thrilling seeing a client walking out feeling like Beyonce. I can see the spring in their step after the services are complete. It’s fantastic.

When and why I started my business/employment here: I believe it’s important to shop and eat in your city. I live in Glendale and I want my community to thrive.

Where was before and why I left: Working at a few salons over the last decade has taught me tips and tricks that I’ll cherish.

My family: Coming from a pretty big family I’ve been able to adapt quickly to situations and has helped my patience level grow, that’s for sure. Although I don’t have children yet, I hope I’m lucky enough to have one someday.

My interests & hobbies: Arts, painting and creating pieces. Hiking, beaches. Nothing more relaxing to me than sitting on a beach at sunset listening to the waves crash and wind blow through your hair.

My guiding philosophy: Don’t give up. Keep your spirit alive.

My advice to today’s youth: Life will happen, what’s important is how you react to it.
