Residents are invited to LIBCON West at the Velma Teague Library, 7010 N 58th Ave., noon-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7.
The free, all-ages event will take place at Murphy Park, surrounding the library, and feature comic book creators, cosplay groups, dozens of vendors, programs and demonstrations, games, and crafts for kids and teens. Fans are encouraged to actively participate by dressing as favorite characters and celebrating all things pop culture.
The Velma Teague Library is the new venue for this fourth annual event.
“We’re located in the heart of the historic shopping and dining district of downtown Glendale,” Velma Teague Library Administrator Greg Kinder stated. “Many of the downtown shops are participating in our Scavenger Hunt and also offering superhero-themed activities.”
LIBCON West was inspired by comic conventions that make appearances at libraries and other venues around the nation. The popular fandom-related event was previously held at the Glendale Main Library.
This year, event-goers can also enjoy live music throughout the park. Dratini on the Rocks will be performing jazzy versions of favorite video game themes. Driftwood Quintet will serenade with classically-styled TV and movie music, and the Minibosses will jam with rock ‘n’ roll video game tunes.
The Syndicate Saber United choreography group will lead a Star Wars Lightsaber Walk through the holiday lights of downtown Glendale.
Following the convention, participants are encouraged to experience the holiday lights, restaurants, holiday shopping and festive entertainment in the downtown area.
The music portion of this event is funded in part by the City of Glendale through the Centerline Arts & Cultural Initiative.
