Glendale will host Water Awareness Day this week

Free event to provide water wise information

April is National Water Awareness Month, and the city of Glendale invites residents to participate in Water Awareness Day this weekend.

The event starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 15 at the Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown St.

Residents can learn about the different drought stages and how to be water wise. The free, family-friendly event will also include crafts for children, desert-wise landscape classes for adults, water conservation resources and a plant/seed exchange.

Arizona has been in a drought for more than 23 years.

Schedule of Events:

9–10 a.m.: Bird walk at the Xeriscape Garden. The award-winning garden that surrounds the library is a living example of the diversity and abundant amount of low-water-use plants available for use in planning a lush and inviting garden. Learn more about low-water-use plants, and how to conserve water.

9 a.m.–1:30 p.m.: Crafts for kids, water-related exhibits for adults

10–11 a.m.: Stormwater pollution prevention (Large Meeting Room)

10–11:30 a.m.: Pruning trees and shrubs (Auditorium)

12–1:30 p.m.: Glendale Water Resources and Conservation (Auditorium)

12–1:30 p.m.: Drought resilient landscapes
