Glendale police ID deceased suspect in officer-involved shooting

Posted

Glendale police have identified 28-year-old Maxwell Jerome Davis as the suspect involved in a weekend officer-involved shooting.

Mr. Davis died as a result from his injuries during the shooting, which took place Sunday, May 9.

Just after 3:30 a.m. officers responded to a robbery at a convenience store near 51st Avenue and Bethany Home Road. Police allege that Mr. Davis committed an armed robbery at the store while simulating a handgun and threating to shoot the clerk and others in the store before grabbing some items from the counter and leaving on foot.

An officer located Mr. Davis near the 4900 block of west Bethany Home Road. Mr. Davis allegedly threatened to shoot the officer, and ran into a mobile home community. A second officer located the suspect hiding between two cars, and police say Mr. Davis again told the officer he was going to shoot him while making a move toward his waistband and then raising his hands in a motion of pointing a gun at the officer.

Mr. Davis was seen with an object in his hand, and that’s when the officer drew his duty weapon and fired at the suspect, striking him.

Officers used trauma kits to provide aid to Mr. Davis who was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Detectives processed the scene and located a dark green sharp object near where Mr. Davis fell.

There were no other injuries reported.

The officer who discharged his weapon has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard practice in this situation.

The investigation is ongoing.
