Stems from fatal Feb. 12 convenience store shooting
Posted
Glendale police have arrested a homicide suspect from a convenience store shooting.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12, patrol officers responded to 911 of a shooting at 6700 W. Glendale Ave. The 911 caller advised both he and his brother had been shot and the shooter took off in a truck onto 67th Avenue, according to police.
The shooter was seated in the driver’s seat of his vehicle while he shot across his front seat passenger and struck both victims. One victim was treated on scene and the other victim was pronounced deceased in the parking lot. The decedent was identified as 32-year-old Glendale resident Tyler Helies-Milligan.
Detectives sought the public’s help in identifying the suspect truck from store surveillance. On Feb. 22, Phoenix Police Department patrol officers located the vehicle from the surveillance footage, and the truck was turned over to the Glendale Police Department for forensic evidence processing. The vehicle had been modified in appearance.
A subject was identified in relation to the vehicle known only as “Timmy,” according to police. Detectives were able to conduct extensive research and identify “Timmy” as 31-year-old Phoenix resident Jose Reyes. Mr. Reyes was already in custody since Feb. 19 on several other unrelated violent felony charges.
Detectives were able to submit in custody charges on Mr. Reyes on Friday, March 12 for one count of 2nd degree murder, one count of drive by shooting, one count of weapons misconduct for prohibited possessor, and two counts of felony endangerment.
