Petty Officer 1st Class Raul Haro, a native of Glendale, serves aboard USS Somerset, a U.S. Navy warship operating out of San Diego, and participating in the biennial Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise in and around the Hawaiian Islands.
Haro graduated from Ironwood High School in 2014.
“I have learned to respect everyone no matter where they are from because at the end of the day, we are all in this together and we’re not that different,” stated Haro in a press release.
RIMPAC is the world’s largest international maritime exercise. It is expected that 29 nations, 40 surface ships, three submarines, 14 national land forces, more than 150 aircraft and more than 25,000 personnel will participate.
Haro is a dental technician and will take care of the dental needs of U.S. and the foreign navy ships.
“I want to thank my wife, Fernanda, who has been with me since high school and has been nothing but supportive through the deployments and my long absences,” Haro stated. “She holds down the household and takes care of our two children and never complains.”
