Glendale city employees sort through donated school supplies to give to students in the Glendale Elementary School District.
(City of Glendale)
Glendale Police and city employees lent a hand to pack 400 backpacks for primary and intermediate level students at William C. Jack and Challenger schools in the Glendale Elementary School District.
Just in time for the first bell, the city of Glendale donated supplies to schools in the Glendale Elementary School District.
Glendale had its third annual school supply drive in July, where employees donated pencils, erasers, notebooks, rulers, paper and many other items stuffed into 400 backpacks for primary and intermediate level students.
Students at William C. Jack and Challenger elementary schools. The city thanks Glendale City Council members and early childhood agency First Things First for offering financial support to purchase the backpacks.
Donations for the drive were valued at about $6,000.
“The city of Glendale is so grateful to our caring, charitable employees, as well as the wonderful First Things First organization, for making it possible once again for us to support children whose families are struggling with financial challenges,” Glendale Community Services Interim Deputy Director Michelle Yates said.
Several city employees on the Glendale Employee Giving Committee gathered to place nearly 4,000 pencils, more than 400 packs of markers and 2,078 erasers, into backpacks on Aug. 5. The backpacks filled were delivered to the schools on Aug. 7.
"We are grateful for the generosity of the City of Glendale employees donating backpacks and additional school supplies for our students,” Glendale Elementary School District Superintendent Cindy Segotta-Jones stated in a press release. “These donations help ease the financial burden on our families, ensuring every child starts the school year prepared and confident.”
