The Glendale Fire Department on Oct. 19 reported three fires that occurred in the city over the past 24 hours:

7000 block of N. 45th Ave.

This second alarm fire occurred at 11:36 a.m. at a three story independent living facility for elderly adults. The fire itself was in a first floor apartment, and crews were able to contain it to that single unit. However, due to the water and smoke damage, 46 people were displaced.

The Crisis Response Team and the Red Cross worked with management to get the residents any personal belongings they would need to relocate to a hotel for the night.

The cause is still being investigated.

4500 block of West Echo Lane

This fire was dispatched at 11:08 p.m. and was a kitchen fire that extended to the back patio and eventually into the attic.

The cause of this fire was the resident, an elderly woman, who was cooking and left the food unattended. When she returned the kitchen was on fire. She was able to exit the home unharmed and was evaluated for smoke inhalation but did not require any further treatment.

Three firefighters sustained minor burns and were transported to the hospital. All three are home and recovering.

The resident and her three pets were displaced.

400 block of W. State Ave.

This fire was dispatched at 11:19 a.m. Tuesday. When units arrived they reported smoke and flames coming from the home.  This was reportedly a tri-level home which can present unique challenges for firefighters. The fire was brought under control relatively quickly and no injuries were reported.

The investigator is still working to determine a cause. One resident and four reptiles will be displaced.
