Glendale Elementary School District earns financial reporting honor

The Glendale Elementary School District was awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials International.

The district earned the Certificate of Excellence for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020. ASBO International’s certificate recognizes districts that have met the program’s high standards for financial reporting and transparency.

“The Glendale Elementary School District finance team works diligently to ensure a fiscally responsible approach to managing the budget; while we navigated challenges of the pandemic, our team remained focused on providing a strong financial reporting system,” GESD Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Auxiliary Services Mike Barragan stated in a news release. “I congratulate our Finance and Purchasing Director Valerie Caraveo, our Accounting/Budget Supervisor Courtney Piña and the entire GESD finance team for demonstrating their commitment to financial transparency.”

As part of the certificate program, the district submitted a report for review by a team of financial professionals who provided feedback and certified that it met the requirements to receive the Certificate of Excellence. A district’s participation in the program can facilitate bond rating and continuing bond disclosure processes.

“The COE’s mission is to promote and recognize excellence in financial reporting,” ASBO International Executive Director David Lewis stated. “The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report informs stakeholders about the financial and economic state of the district, making it an important communications tool for building trust and engaging with the school community.”
