In its Tuesday workshop, Glendale City Council is considering whether to annex a 76-acre property into the city and is reviewing how to disperse federal grant money to local charities.
Tuesday's workshop starts at 12:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, 5850 W. Glendale Ave. Council workshops and meetings are open to the public. They can be viewed live on Channel 11 or viewed live or later on the city's website or on the city's Facebook page.
The 76-acre property being considered for annexation is at the northeast corner of Sarival Avenue and Claremont Street and is planned to build 1.25 million square feet of distribution warehouses.
Council will be considering where to spend its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), HOME Investment Partnership Program (HOME), and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) granted to them by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Glendale's Community Development Advisory Committee, made of resident volunteers, makes recommendations to Council on which local nonprofits to allocate money to, and Council makes changes based on CDAC's recommendations.
Local nonprofits request a dollar amount from the city and CDAC and Council decide how much of that request, if any, to grant. In the past, Glendale had chosen to fund almost every group to some extent but gave almost no groups the full amount they requested. In an earlier workshop addressing homelessness in Glendale earlier this year, City Council gave direction to CDAC to fully fund as many groups as possible -- whichever groups they believed would have the biggest impact on Glendale residents -- and that it was OK to not fund some groups.
