Drawn To Comics, downtown Glendale's source for comic books, gaming and collectibles, will partner with the Velma Teague Library for another Free Comic Book Day experience.
The annual event brings activities for all ages from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6 inside the Teague Library, 7010 N. 58th Ave., and outside in the surrounding Murphy Park. More festivities will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the same day across the street inside Drawn To Comics, at 5801 W. Glendale Ave.
The event will attracts local artists, select vendors, crafts, games, cosplay, and, of course, free comics. Comics will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis and while supplies last.
Guests can meet comic book artists and buy custom creations from vendors, and watch live medieval combat demonstrations by the Kingdom of Umbria right outside the library in Murphy Park.
Kids can create their own easy crafts. Guests of all ages will compete in the Super Smash Bros. tournament hosted by Umbrella Corporation Arizona Hive.
Costumes welcome at the entire event.
“Free Comic Book Day is right around the corner, and it’s time again for Downtown Glendale’s super team-up of Drawn to Comics and the Velma Teague Library,” Drawn To Comics owner Ken Brown shared in a statement. “We are so excited to once again be collaborating with the library to bring you all free comics, astounding artists, cosplay, entertainment and more.”
Dating back to 2002, Free Comic Book Day is an annual event held on the first Saturday in May, during which participating comic book specialty shops across North America and around the world give away exclusive comic books for free to showcase the industry.
For the past decade, Drawn To Comics has created a local festival that attracts more than 2,000 fans.
