Foothills guests explore percussion, Indigenous jewelry

The Glendale Foothills Branch Library at 19055 N. 57th Ave. has the following events planned for early July:

  • Phoenix Ukulele Group meets from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, July 5. Guests can bring a uke or other acoustic instrument and take part in playing together. Singers and an audience are welcome. Information is available at phoenixukulelegroup.com.
  • Color Our World with Sound: Sticks and Tones is a group for children from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, July 9. Kids can join Maria & Henry as they teach young readers and families to express a storyline and meaning through sound. This engaging performance uses percussion instruments chosen and played by the children to express parts of a story with texture, dynamics, and rhythm.
  • Beyond the Kitsch: The Pervasive Spirit of Our Indigenous Creative Community is from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, July 10. Explore the world of contemporary Native American art in this presentation by Diné jeweler Nanibaa Beck. Discover the depth and richness of Native creativity and gain a deeper appreciation for the artists shaping Indigenous art today.
