Dignity Health’s Westgate Medical Center provides new access to cancer care

Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Westgate Medical Center has opened a new cancer program in Glendale.

The new, comprehensive Dignity Health–Cancer Center at St. Joseph’s Westgate, 7300 N. 99th Ave., is an expansion of downtown Phoenix’s Dignity Health–Cancer Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.

West Valley residents undergoing cancer treatment have access to personalized, compassionate and expert cancer care closer to home. The new center aims to provide patients with effective and individualized treatment with the primary goals of treating the cancer, reducing the side effects of treatment and promoting healing.

“We know cancer is a tough diagnosis to cope with. However, it is treatable, and when caught early enough, it can be curable,” Dr. Makardhwaj Shrivastava, lead medical oncologist with the new Dignity Health–Cancer Center at St. Joseph’s Westgate, stated in a news release. “We take cancer personally and do all we can to help our patients and their families to fight this disease.”

Dr. Shrivastava joins the Dignity Health team after spending three years at Yuma Regional Medical Center and prior residencies and fellowships at hospitals in New York and India. He is board certified in hematology, medical oncology and internal medicine.

The new space features eight exam rooms and a well-outfitted infusion center. The eight semi-private infusion therapy suites offer support for on-site chemotherapy and immunotherapy in an atmosphere complete with recliners, complimentary Wi-Fi service and iPads for use during treatment. Available clinical services include medical oncology and hematology, genetic counseling and supportive care such as nutrition counseling, social work and more.

While this location’s focal specialties are medical oncology and hematology, patients also have access to the multidisciplinary team of board-certified oncologists who specialize in everything from radiation therapy to surgical oncology at the Dignity Health–Cancer Institute located at St. Joseph’s. The institute’s team of physicians, nurses and technicians work with patients and their care team to provide care plans designed around individualized needs.
