Cactus running back Jiles wins Week 4 vote

Cactus junior running back Damian Jiles was one of several Cobras at his best Sept. 24 during their 50-7 road rout of Sunrise Mountain.

Jiles won the West Valley Preps football player of the week vote for week 4.

Jiles rushed for 160 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. He won with 436 of the 823 votes cast.

Deer Valley senior running back and linebacker Ashton Hill came in second with 297  votes for his performance in a rivalry win. In the Skyhawks' 36-28 victory Sept. 24 against Goldwater, Hill had 29 carries for 186 yards and two touchdowns.

In third place was Glendale Prep senior quarterback/safety Sam Terpstra. In the Griffins' 18-14 road upset of defending 2A state champion Eloy Santa Cruz Valley, Terpstra completed 11-21 passes for 158 yards and three touchdowns, while making seven tackles and an interception.

Terpstra received 69 votes.

For the sixth straight year, player of the week honorees, including Jiles, will win more than bragging rights.

Celebrity Tux and Tails, returns as the sponsor of the player of the week poll. The store, at 9240 W. Northern Ave., Suite 103-A in Peoria, will provide each winner a free rental redeemable any time this school year.
