Apartment complexes continue to ascend from the ground around Glendale.
According to planning data from the city’s development services department, six apartment complexes have been green-lit for construction just this year alone. The most recent, Moderne Arrowhead, at the intersection of 67th Avenue and Greenway Road, gained approval on Sept. 21, and boosts the total number of apartment units OK’d so far in 2022 to 1,228.
In the past four years, from 2022 through 2019, 18 apartment complexes with a total of 3,569 units have gotten approval for construction. In the previous four years, 2018 through 2015, Glendale saw just three apartment complexes with 640 units go up. That’s a 500% increase in complexes and 458% jump in total units from one four-year stretch to the next.
And the apartment complex growth is hardly limited to any particular area of town. Construction on those approved in 2021 and 2022 is taking place in seven different ZIP codes.
The 2020 Census shows the city’s population has grown 10% since 2010.
For renters, even more good news than the booming availability of options are the rent costs. According to industry studies here, here and here in 2022 alone, Glendale shows the lowest rent in the Valley. A 2021 study showed the same data conclusion.
