I endorsed Prop 499 and encourage all Glendale voters to vote yes in November.
Let’s be clear: Glendale’s hospitality and event industry is thriving and so should their labor force. When Hotels and event centers pay their workers a fair wage, we all benefit.
I oversaw Glendale’s boom as a council member and Vice Mayor for Glendale’s Ocotillo District. I know firsthand the contributions of our labor force have had on our economy.
Prop 499 will ensure that Glendale workers are not left out of the profit pouring into Glendale.
I want to shed some light on some of the misinformation circulating about Prop 499. The Arizona Lodging & Tourism Association is fighting very hard against Prop 499. Not surprising because they represent the industry, the companies, that only want to maximize their profit.
However, I support our labor force who call Glendale home. These workers invest their salaries in our local economy. It’s time they are paid a fair wage.
After all, Glendale has worked to promote high paying jobs in our city. Prop 499 will do exactly that.
It’s crucial that Glendale voters think about the sources of their information on Prop 499 and the motivation behind those sources.
Although elected officials are entrusted with doing what is best for the city and its residents, the city of Glendale fought voters all the way to the Arizona Supreme Court. The city lost its case and voters prevailed.
(Why the city of Glendale seems determined to stand with corporate interests over the interests of their constituents, I don’t know.)
Prop 499 will not raise your taxes.
More than 8,000 Glendale voters signed the petition to put Prop 499 on the ballot.
I stand with Glendale voters and Glendale workers.
That was my job for nearly 10 years. And I will continue to do so, in office or out.
Prop 499 protects workers by requiring employers to pay them fairly for their work.
Prop 499 guarantees service charges go to the workers and not the companies.
Prop 499 protects Glendale’s future by ensuring the industry that profits off Glendale as a destination pays their fair share back into our communities.
