Home school, district will decide

The Arizona Interscholastic Association executive board announced Thursday that due to improving COVID-19 metrics (decreasing COVID cases, increased hospital bed capacity, etc.), up to two parents or legal guardians may attend their student-athletes' home and away games as allowed by the school and county guidelines.

It is at the discretion of the home school whether or not parent/legal guardian spectators are permitted. AIA schools may begin to utilize this change starting Monday, Feb. 8.

Dysart Unified School District Assistant Superintendent for Support Services Jim Dean stated in an email Thursday that Dysart schools will allow two parents/guardians per visiting player.

Peoria Unified School District Athletic Director Mark Ernster and Deer Valley Unified School District Athletic Director Scott Warner also stated in emails that PUSD will allow two visiting parents/guardians per player.

The Agua Fria Union High School District will not, at least for the time being.

"At this time we are not allowing visiting fans. This is due to a number of factors; our community spread has not decreased to a level that we feel allowing additional fans is appropriate and our teachers and students are still remote. This is something we will continue to monitor and when safe we will invite additional fans from visiting schools. I will be meeting with district leadership this week to discuss further," AFUHSD athletic director Tamee Gressett stated in an email.

Masks must be worn and social distancing requirements maintained.
