The search for Agua Fria Union High School District’s new superintendent is formally under way.

The district’s Governing Board contracted with JG Consulting to lead its search to replace Dr. Dennis Runyan, who will retire June 31 after 12 years as superintendent.

After a series of virtual town halls in mid-January, the position has been opened for candidate submissions, which will be accepted through Wednesday, Feb. 17.

“We have been so fortunate as a school district to have Dr. Dennis Runyan as our superintendent,” Governing Board President Vickie Landis said. “He’ll remain in that position through the end of the school year allowing us the time needed to do a thorough search and find our next superintendent.”

Before being named superintendent, Dr. Runyan served as a principal. His retirement will culminate a 32-year career as an educator.

During the virtual community virtual town halls, representatives of JG Consulting spoke with staff and other stakeholders to determine qualifications for the next superintendent. The Governing Board identified and agreed to five objectives that will guide the search effort. The successful candidate will:

• Serve the academic needs of all students and expanded learning opportunities;
• Commit to effective communication protocols (internal and external);
• Implement a district strategic plan;
• Engage with the community with clear and concise communication; and
• Collaborate with Governing Board.

“The board wants to ensure that our next superintendent not only focuses on the academic needs of our students but has an eye to the future as our community continues to grow,” Ms. Landis said.
