Sydney Swanson, a 16-year-old singer/songwriter that plays both piano and guitar, will be the next performer at Gilbert's Concert in the Park series Thursday, March 16.
Swanson performs from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Gilbert Water Tower Plaza, 45 W. Page Ave., Gilbert.
Swanson had an ear for music at the age of 6 when her grandmother gave her their Roland electric piano. She started piano and vocal lessons shortly afterwards.
She wrote her first song and performed it at age 9. She wrote a song for her seventh-grade choir to perform as one of their musical pieces. She has performed in several talent contests throughout the valley and at venues across Arizona.
Swanson's genre of music is indie pop, classic rock and popular music. She is active with Music United Against Teen Bullying and Alice Cooper’s Solid Rock Teen Center.
People are invited to bring a blanket or a lawn chair to watch the performance. The concerts are free and take place every Thursday in March. They feature family-friendly local musicians.
Food trucks will be on-site during the event with refreshments.
