Gilbert's population moves past 275,000

Gilbert’s estimated population has stretched past 275,000 in the latest numbers released by the U.S. Census Bureau. 

The bureau put Gilbert’s estimated population on July 1, 2022, at 275,346, up 0.78% from 273,205 the previous year. The numbers were released May 18. 

Gilbert remains Arizona’s fifth largest municipality behind Phoenix, Tucson, Mesa and Chandler, but it is gaining on Chandler, which is now at 280,711. 

Glendale (252,136) and Scottsdale (243,050) are next on the list and the last two municipalities that have more than 200,000 in estimated population. 

Gilbert was at 267,932 in 2020, making for 2.77% growth thus far in the decade.
