We are witnessing Trump’s intent to radically shift our nation

The following was read at the Call to the Public section of the Feb. 19 meeting of the Pinal County Board of Supervisors:

In honor of Black History Month, and in the spirit of America’s African American original freedom fighters, I dedicate this statement.

“You should have never started it!” With these words, President Trump yesterday blamed Ukraine for defending itself against Russia’s attacks — a most despicable attempt at blaming victims of an autocratic aggressor for defending themselves.

Trump’s treacherous alignment with Russia against Ukraine is the height of immoral depravity, and a putrid rejection of America’s role in defending self-governing democratic nations against the autocratic forces of fascism.

Domestically, we are witnessing Trump’s intent to radically shift our nation from the founders dreams of a self-governing constitutional republic to an autocratic government controlled by a ruling class of Russian-style oligarchs, in the style of Elon Musk.

How else explain the flood of chaotic and confusing executive orders that have engulfed our nation these past few weeks — upending international trade, revoking birthright citizenship, immigration, foreign aid, demographic diversity, civil rights, hiring and firing of government workers, and important to us this morning — the freezing of congressionally authorized federal funds — confusion that is reflected in this meeting’s own agenda.

Trump’s mask is off. The unhinged actions of our nation’s first convicted criminal sitting in the White House can no longer be written off as, it’s just Trump being Trump.

No, it’s an out-of-control delusional demagogue creating a challenge to our Constitution.

Reacting to a U.S. District Judge denying Elon Musk’s access to the Treasury Department’s confidential central payment system,
Trump said “No judge should frankly be allowed to make that kind of a decision. It’s a disgrace.”

We are in a developing crisis. If delusional Trump decides to disobey a court order, which is coming within next few weeks, we will then be in an unprecedented constitutional crisis.

Respect for the rule of law, defense of our Constitution against a sitting president, is an unprecedented crisis for all Americans.

I stand with our Constitution. Respectfully and truthfully.
