SRP: Special Friday meeting on pricing proposal

Posted

The Salt River Project’s board of directors is set to hold the first of four planned special meetings Friday to learn more about SRP pricing proposal and to take public comment.

The proposal seeks an overall 2.4% price increase, according to a news release.

The first meeting is set for Friday, Jan. 31, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the SRP Public Administration Building, 1500 N. Mill Ave. in
Tempe.

The release states the price change reflects a proposed increase of $169.1 million in base revenue to support upgrades to the power system and an anticipated decrease of $68.7 million in fuel and purchased power revenues, which are recovered through the Fuel and Purchased Power Adjustment Mechanism rate.

If approved by SRP’s board, the average residential customer using 1,117 kilowatt-hours (kWh) a month will see a monthly bill increase of 3.5%, or $5.61, effective with the November 2025 billing cycle.

Actual bill impacts will vary based on customer usage and price plan.

Other elements of the pricing process proposal include:

• Increasing the limited-income Economy Price Plan bill credit to $25 a month and expanding program eligibility so more customers can participate.

• Tiered residential monthly service charges

• New price plans with super-off-peak daytime time-of-use hours.

• Freezing new participation in some current time-of-use price plans.

Presentations will be made by SRP from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Public comment will be taken from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.; the meeting will end no later than 1:30 p.m.

Additional public comment times will be available at the Feb. 6 and Feb. 11 special board meetings, which will also be held at the SRP Public Administration Building in Tempe.

Attendees must present a valid state I.D. and check in at the SRP security desk.

A link to watch the meeting live via Zoom will be available at srp.net/srpprices but no comments will be taken from online viewers.

Comments and questions can be submitted through srp.net/srpprices.

SRP’s board will conduct a detailed review of the pricing proposal at the meetings and consider public feedback before making a decision. A final vote is anticipated at the end of a Feb. 27 meeting.

We invite our readers to submit their civil comments on this topic.  Email AZOpinions@iniusa.org.
