MaryEllen Sheppard was recently appointed Pinal County deputy county manager.

Sheppard, who joined Pinal County in February 2019 as human resources director, has been serving in an interim role since December, according to a release.

Prior to joining Pinal County, she worked as assistant county manager and human resources director for Maricopa County. She also worked in the positions of deputy chief of administration and deputy chief for the custody bureau for the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, a rank she held for more than 10 years.

Sheppard has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s degree in organizational management. She is also a certified public manager, senior professional in human resources and certified mediator.

“We are grateful to have MaryEllen here in Pinal County. She is a wonderful teammate and leader. Her skills and experience have proven to obtain great results. I am happy and proud to remove the interim title from her appointment and look forward to the positive contributions she will undoubtedly make in our community,” Pinal County Manager Leo Lew said in the release.

With her appointment, Randy Tracy will lead the human resources department on an interim basis, beginning Aug. 1.
