A temporary public health warning regarding the Gila River has been issued in Florence.

The town is working to address a wastewater bypass into the Gila River at Plant Road, according to a post on the town’s Facebook page.

Residents are being asked to avoid all contact with the water near the affected area. The town is also encouraging residents to keep pets and livestock away from the water.

The Gila River Indian Community on its Instagram page described the wastewater incident as a “surface water discharge.”

The community's department of environmental quality stated that drinking water in the community is not affected.

The health warning is in effect until further notice.
