Pinal hosts ‘Youth CSI’ camp in San Tan Valley

If you see police cars at Poston Butte High School on Wednesday, don’t panic – teens are learning about the criminal justice system.

The Pinal County Attorney’s Office will be holding its free, four-day Youth CSI Summer Camp starting on Tuesday at Poston Butte, 32375 N. Gantzel Road in San Tan Valley.

During the event, about 80 students will take part in a mock crime scene, mock trial, classroom work on forensic science and fingerprinting, and a career fair.

The mock crime scene takes place on Wednesday at the school and the mock trial will be held in front of a superior court judge on Friday at the Pinal County Superior Court, 971 Jason Lopez Circle, Florence.

“This is designed to give students a realistic look at the various roles in the criminal justice system. The week will involve dozens of staff from various agencies, including attorneys, law enforcement, judges from Pinal County Superior Court, and other investigative personnel … the mock crime scene will take place at Poston Butte High School, and this is a heads up for anyone in the area that sees law enforcement and EMTs. This is only a simulation,” stated a post on PCAO’s Facebook page
