Pinal County debuts revamped animal shelter

Pinal County has unveiled its $7 million renovation and extension of the Pinal County Animal Care and Control Center.

A ribbon-cutting for the revamped shelter at 1150 S. Eleven Mile Corner Road in Casa Grande took place on Wednesday.

The existing 4,200 square-foot administration building has been renovated, while 6,000 square feet have been added.

The new addition contains a large open lobby with visitor waiting areas, adoption and admission sections, a cat-display area, dog meet-and-greet rooms, and an animal services clinic, according to a county press release.

Behind the scenes, infrastructure improvements have been made to sewer drains and septic systems, while all kennel doors were replaced.

Outdoor upgrades include new visitor parking, secured employee parking, a dog-walking path around the complex, secure outdoor dog-play areas with covered canopies, and a CCTV security system.

As well as serving unincorporated Pinal County, the shelter also serves most Pinal County cities and towns through intergovernmental agreements. The facility has been operating overcapacity for a number of years, the release continued.

This month, the shelter is waiving adoption fees for animals 7 years and older, and offering $25 adoptions for animals 6 months and older and $50 adoptions for animals under 6 months.
