New ADA improvements in Florence

There are new accessibility upgrades at the Dorothy Nolan Senior Center and Heritage Park.

Through a federal community development block grant, Florence was able to add and upgrade improvements to make the senior center and Heritage Park conform to the American with Disabilities Act, a town Facebook post stated.

At the senior center there is new ADA parking on the north side, providing convenient access.

Also, 48 feet of curbing and sidewalk have been replaced, and the northwest ramp has been upgraded with a 10-foot landing for a safer, gentler slope. Three-foot safety rails have also been installed.

At Heritage Park, four new ADA pathways now connect the parking lot to the main walking path. In addition, an accessible route to the skate park and smooth access to the basketball courts are open to people of all abilities.

Town of Florence Grants Coordinator Jennifer Events secured funding for the upgrades and the town’s streets and community services crews oversaw the work.
