Live fire demonstration part of Florence Fire open house
Town of Florence
The Florence Fire & Medical Department's Oct. 12 open house will include a live fire demonstration.

A live fire demonstration is the top feature at the Florence Fire & Medical Department's upcoming open house event.
The demonstration is aimed at educating the public on how a room can be quickly engulfed by fire, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.
The open house runs from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday at Florence Fire Station No. 2, 2035 N. Hunt Highway.
Florence fire is hosting a trailer from the National Fire Sprinkler Association that contains two "rooms."
The rooms are furnished as a typical living room, with the difference being that one of the rooms has a smoke alarm, while the other has a smoke alarm plus a single sprinkler head.
This demonstration shows how a sprinkler suppresses the fire under a minute in one room while the other room is engulfed by flames before firefighters can arrive on scene.
Along with the fire demonstration, attendees at the free open house can tour the fire station and learn how firefighters live, eat, train, assist the community and respond to emergencies.
Guests can also get a close look at the department’s newest fire trucks. Kids can try out the mini-firefighter obstacle course and spray water.
