Litchfield Park barber, nonprofit seek help to provide haircuts to Valley homeless

Trevor's Vision needs truck to haul mobile barbershop

Posted

Litchfield Park-based mobile barber Darryl Brandt has partnered with nonprofit Trevor’s Vision to provide haircuts to the homeless and less fortunate throughout the Valley, but they need help.

Brandt is a master barber who was trained in New York City more than two decades ago. He has been cutting hair as The Dreaded Barber locally for the past 16 years.

His collaboration with Trevor’s Vision, a veteran-run, tax-deductible 501(c) nonprofit charity organization made up of volunteers who are committed to helping the homeless and less fortunate in the Valley of The Sun, has turned a 27-foot toy hauler into a licensed, fully operational mobile barber shop that will provide free haircuts to the homeless.

For the past three years, the group has served the homeless with a four-bay mobile shower trailer that provides respite from the heat while they shower and clean up.

Additionally, Trevor’s Vision offers free meals at weekly events and pays for laundry service at a laundromat in downtown Phoenix.

The group is made up of 25 volunteers and leader Jeff Kistler tows the shower trailer with his personal truck.

Brandt and Trevor’s Vision are looking for a sponsor to donate a three-quarter-ton work truck to tow the new mobile barber shop that’s been sitting unused since getting licensed earlier this year.

“There are currently a minimum of 16 monthly events we know of that have requested the trailer around the valley, from Surprise to Gilbert,” Brandt said. “It has also been suggested for helping with cold water distribution over the summer, a mobile COVID-19 vaccination station in conjunction with another local charity, and countless other opportunities that have had to be turned down. In these tough times, we would love to have it out in the community every day.”

Brandt said the truck would be wrapped with the sponsor’s logo and the company would receive a mention in all social media posts in addition to “a feather in the cap for their unique community engagement and the debt of gratitude for helping a small band of dedicated volunteers make life better for those less fortunate.”

Anyone who is interested in donating a vehicle, funds or time to Trevor’s Vision is asked to call Brandt at 623-247-7647.
